HISTORY
The Boot Inn in weymouth is full of history.
Weymouth's seventeenth century pub 'The Boot Inn' at High West Street is believed haunted by the ghost of a seaman. In November 1973 the then new licensee's, Mr and Mrs Ratcliffe, were woken on two successive nights by the sound of heavy footsteps clumping around in the bar. Mr Ratcliffe went to investigate, but saw nobody, though the heavy tramping on the floorboards could clearly be heard.
In July 1977, the Boot Inn's poltergeist mystery came to light once again. Mr and Mrs Smith who had taken over the running of the pub reported experiencing a whole host of uncanny happenings including, locks being tampered with, doors opening and closing at will, wall decorations being moved and even furniture being rearranged. The barmaid once saw the ghostly resident as she changed a barrel in the cellar and shortly after the incident Mr Smith went to the cellar where he suddenly felt an intense cold come over him, he looked over his shoulder, and for a split second saw the apparition, - a ghostly seaman wearing heavy sea boots!
